Greenacres Middle School

Summary:

Greenacres Middle School is a public middle school in Bossier City, Louisiana, serving 611 students in grades 6-8. The school stands out for its diverse student population, with a higher percentage of African American and Hispanic students compared to nearby schools, which tend to have more White students.

Academically, Greenacres Middle School faces some challenges. While the school performs well in Algebra I, with 100% of students scoring proficient or better, its mathematics and English Language Arts (ELA) proficiency rates are lower than the Bossier Parish and Louisiana averages. The school's performance also varies significantly among different student subgroups, with White and Asian students performing better than African American, Hispanic, and students with disabilities. This highlights the need for targeted interventions to address these achievement gaps.

Greenacres Middle School's ranking has declined over the years, from a high of 169 out of 470 Louisiana middle schools in 2013-2014 to 227 out of 449 in 2023-2024, with a consistent 2-star rating from SchoolDigger. The school's performance is generally lower than the nearby Benton Intermediate School and Elm Grove Middle School, which are also part of the Bossier Parish district. However, Greenacres outperforms the Caddo Parish middle schools in the area, which have lower overall academic achievement. The significant increase in the percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch at Greenacres Middle School also suggests that the school is serving a growing population of economically disadvantaged students, which may contribute to the academic challenges it faces.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote All schools have their problems, but this one takes their lowest scoring kids and puts them into one class that is designed to help with remediation. However, one teacher and para cannot control a class of 20+ kids with behavior problems. When kids fight they are often returned to class with a warning or suspended for only that class. The principal, Mr. James, tried to be a friend to them instead of a disciplinarian and authority figure. Other schools in the area use the same course but have smaller classes because they trained multiple teachers not just one. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
