Logansport High School

Summary:

Logansport High School is an alternative public school serving grades PK-12 in Logansport, Louisiana, with a student population of 619. The school is part of the DeSoto Parish school district, which is ranked 33 out of 122 districts in Louisiana and has a 4-star rating.

Logansport High School stands out for its diverse student population, with a racial makeup of 52.18% White, 35.38% African American, 6.3% Hispanic, and 5.49% two or more races, compared to the nearby Stanley High School, which is 80.58% White. Logansport also generally performs better than the DeSoto Parish and Louisiana state averages in English Language Arts, with a 75% proficiency rate in 2023-2024, exceeding the district (78%) and state (69%) averages. However, the school has a higher percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch (53.47%) compared to Stanley High School (41.75%), indicating a higher proportion of economically disadvantaged students.

While Logansport High School's performance is strong in many areas, it faces some challenges. The school lags behind the DeSoto Parish average in mathematics proficiency, suggesting an opportunity for improvement in this subject. Additionally, Logansport's social studies proficiency rates are consistently lower than the district and state averages, and its Algebra I and Geometry end-of-course exam scores are lower than the DeSoto Parish average, despite being higher than the state average. By learning from the practices and strategies employed at higher-performing schools like Stanley High School, Logansport High School can work to address these areas of concern and provide a more well-rounded educational experience for its diverse student population.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school has been a major disappointment since start of kindergarten. Due to covid my son spends more time learning from a device IN CLASS, than i think is necessary. He needs better learning, he needs actual help in the classroom.he has fell behind to the point id rather Just pull him out and make sure hes learning what he needs help with most. Rude staff, lack of care from teachers are just a few reasons I detest this school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
