Converse High School

Summary:

Converse High School is an alternative public school serving grades PK-12 in Converse, Louisiana, which is part of the Sabine Parish school district. The school has 541 students, with a racial makeup that is predominantly White (69.32%), followed by Native American (20.33%), and smaller percentages of other races.

Converse High School generally performs below the Sabine Parish and Louisiana state averages in both math and English language arts proficiency across grade levels. For example, in 2023-2024, the school's math proficiency rate for all grades is 45%, compared to 60% for Sabine Parish and 59% for Louisiana. However, the school has a relatively high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 40.23% to 56.38% over the past three school years, which is higher than the state average. Interestingly, Converse High School has a significantly higher percentage of Native American students (20.33%) compared to the state average.

When compared to the nearby schools of Pleasant Hill High School and Ebarb School, which are also part of the Sabine Parish district, Converse High School generally performs better in terms of test scores, particularly in mathematics and English language arts. However, it still lags behind the state averages in many areas. The school's relatively small class sizes, with a student-teacher ratio ranging from 14.2 to 16.9 over the past three school years, may be a positive factor, but the high percentage of economically disadvantaged students could present challenges in providing additional support and resources to help these students succeed academically.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My 3 children attend CHS. I must say CHS is the best school my children have ever attended. Here is why. 1 The teachers take the time to teach each student. 2 CHS has an after school program that helps your child/children with homework or tutoring if they need it. 3 It's a very small school and all of the teachers know each parent to each child, I love being able to walk into my child's school and they know my name and who I'm there for. If there is a problem they meet with the parents to talk about it and help resolve it instead of just kicking the child out.
My children have only attended one other school and it doesn't even begin to compare to CHS. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
