Dodson High School

Summary:

Dodson High School is an alternative public school serving grades PK-12 in Dodson, Louisiana, with 290 students. The school is part of the Winn Parish school district, which is ranked 58 out of 122 districts in Louisiana and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Compared to the nearby schools, such as Quitman High School, Saline High School, Weston High School, and Calvin High School, Dodson High School has a significantly higher percentage of white students (89.31%) and a higher percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 46.34% to 67.59% over the past three school years. However, Dodson High School's test scores are generally lower than the Winn Parish and Louisiana state averages across various subjects and grade levels, with proficiency rates in LEAP Mathematics (32%) and LEAP English Language Arts (54%) well below the Winn Parish (50% and 61%) and Louisiana (59% and 69%) averages.

The data suggests that Dodson High School could benefit from targeted interventions and support to improve student academic achievement, particularly in the areas of mathematics and English language arts. Addressing the socioeconomic challenges faced by the student population may also be an important consideration in developing strategies to enhance the school's performance. As an alternative school, Dodson High School may have a different student population and educational approach compared to the traditional high schools in the area, which could contribute to the observed differences in academic outcomes and may require a tailored approach to address the specific needs of the school's students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote It's pretty much a small town school. Teachers know most parents and are friends with them. The parents they don't their child gets treated like the red headed step child. If you aren't kin to someone then you are basically out of luck. Everyone is not treated the same at all. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
