Francis Reh PSA

Summary:

Francis Reh PSA is an alternative public charter school located in Saginaw, Michigan that serves grades PK-12 with a student population of 499 as of the 2022-2023 school year. The school has a predominantly African American student body at 87.37%, with smaller percentages of Hispanic (8.82%), two or more races (3.21%), and White (0.4%) students.

While Francis Reh PSA and the other nearby alternative schools like ISDLocal Programs, State Street Academy, Bangor Township Virtual School, LLCBay Campus, and St Charles Virtual School all serve similar student populations, Francis Reh PSA stands out with its significantly higher chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 40.3% to 71.9% over the past few years, and lower academic performance, with only 25% of 3rd graders proficient in English Language Arts and less than 8% of 5th and 6th graders meeting math proficiency standards.

Despite Francis Reh PSA spending significantly more per student, ranging from $11,425 to $13,730 over the past four school years, which is higher than the spending levels of the nearby schools, the school's academic outcomes remain poor compared to the state averages and nearby schools. This suggests that simply allocating more resources may not be the sole solution, and other factors such as school culture, instructional practices, and student engagement may play a crucial role in improving the educational outcomes for the students at Saginaw Independent School District (Isd).

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Leadership at Francis Reh is very poor,. Does not think what a parent or grandparent has to say is important, when there is an issue with the conduct of a teacher. I would not recommend Francis Reh school to any parents. Due to how our child was treated in the classroom by a teacher. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
