Aquila Elementary

Summary:

Aquila Elementary is a public elementary school in St. Louis Park Public School District, serving students from kindergarten to 5th grade. The school has a diverse student population, with a mix of racial backgrounds and a growing number of students from lower-income families.

Academically, Aquila Elementary has shown mixed performance compared to state and district averages. While the school's math and science scores are above the state average, they lag behind the district average. In reading, Aquila's proficiency rates are slightly higher than the state but lower than the district. The school's statewide ranking has fluctuated over the years, generally placing in the middle to lower-middle range. Interestingly, Aquila's African American and English Language Learner students have performed better than the state average, but students from low-income backgrounds have struggled.

Compared to nearby schools, Aquila Elementary lags behind the highly-ranked Park Spanish Immersion Elementary, but outperforms some other local schools like Eisenhower Elementary and Alice Smith Elementary. Aquila also has a relatively high student-teacher ratio, which may contribute to the challenges the school faces in ensuring equitable outcomes for all students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Every few weeks our son would come home with a paper from the teacher "reminding parents" that children need 9+ hours of sleep, and that hitting is not accepted. my son was in kindergarten and the stories he came home with are sick. Kids choking other kids, pushing hitting. I am NOT sending my son there for 1st grade. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
