Cameron High

Summary:

Cameron High is a public high school serving around 500 students in grades 9-12 in Cameron, Missouri, which is part of the Cameron R-I School District. The school has a solid academic track record, with consistently high graduation rates and relatively low dropout rates, though its performance on state assessments is mixed compared to state and district averages.

One of the school's strengths is its high four-year graduation rates, which have ranged from 93.3% to 94.3% in recent years, exceeding the state average. However, the school faces challenges in improving its math and science proficiency, with only 32.3% and 41.2% of students meeting proficiency standards in 2023-2024, respectively. Compared to nearby high schools like Plattsburg High and Penney High, Cameron High's performance in these subject areas lags behind, suggesting opportunities for improvement through learning from the practices of higher-performing schools.

Another area of concern for Cameron High is its increasing chronic absenteeism, which has risen from 14.8% in 2023-2024 to 21.7% in 2021-2022. This trend is worrying and may contribute to the school's academic challenges. Additionally, the school has a relatively high percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, with 38.2% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch in 2022-2023. By addressing these factors and implementing targeted strategies, Cameron High can continue to enhance the educational experiences and outcomes for its students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I Currently go to Cameron High School and quite frankly feel like I have learned nothing. The most of my knowledge comes from out of school, also most of the graduates don't finish the first year in college. Next year we are getting a new superintendant, hopefully this helps. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
