Harris Elementary

Summary:

Harris Elementary is a public elementary school located in Saint Charles, Missouri, serving grades K-4 with a total enrollment of 408 students. The school is part of the St. Charles R-VI school district, which is ranked 75 out of 386 districts in Missouri and is rated 4 stars out of 5 by SchoolDigger.

Harris Elementary has consistently ranked in the top 25% of Missouri elementary schools over the past several years, with a current ranking of 277 out of 906 schools. The school's performance on state assessments (MAP) is generally above the state and district averages, particularly in English Language Arts (ELA), where 63% of 4th-grade students were proficient or better in 2023-2024, compared to 56.7% in the district and 46.2% statewide. Harris Elementary has also performed well in serving its African American and low-socioeconomic status (SES) student populations, ranking in the top 20% and top 5% of Missouri elementary schools for these subgroups, respectively.

The higher per-student spending and lower student-to-teacher ratio at Harris Elementary may contribute to the school's strong academic performance and ability to support diverse student populations. However, the school's higher chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 18.6% to 22.3%, are an area of concern that the school and district should address to further improve student success.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I have visited this school with my son, and it is a really great school. I would definitely rate it above average. I noticed however that this school didn't have a rating where as greatschools.org is giving it an 8/10 based on MAP test results. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
