Crossroads Elementary

Summary:

Crossroads Elementary is a high-performing public elementary school located in Dardenne Prairie, Missouri, serving 616 students in grades K-5 and part of the Wentzville R-IV School District. This school consistently ranks among the top elementary schools in Missouri, with a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger and a ranking of 100th out of 906 schools in the 2023-2024 school year.

Crossroads Elementary's academic performance is exceptional, with students significantly outperforming the district and state averages in standardized tests across multiple grade levels and subject areas. For example, in 3rd grade Mathematics, 69.6% of Crossroads students were proficient or better, compared to 51% for the district and 40.8% for the state. The school also serves its student subgroups well, particularly White students and Special Education students, though its performance for Low Socioeconomic Status (SES) and Disabled students is more mixed. Additionally, Crossroads has seen a decrease in chronic absenteeism rates and an increase in per-student spending, which may contribute to its strong outcomes.

When compared to nearby schools, Crossroads Elementary's performance is generally stronger than other schools within the Wentzville R-IV District, such as Green Tree Elementary and Prairie View Elementary. However, Discovery Ridge Elementary, another school in the district, has shown comparable or even higher academic achievement in certain areas. When compared to schools in the neighboring Fort Zumwalt School District, Crossroads Elementary's performance is mixed, with some schools, such as Emge Elementary and John Weldon Elementary, outperforming Crossroads in certain metrics.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The teachers, administrators, staff, PTA, and parents/families at this school are phenomenal. It nearly feels like a private school, with Smart Boards in every classroom (many purchased with PTA funds!) and suspended ceiling tiles painted by students. The facilities are great, as well. Voters narrowly approved a bond issue (4/3/2011) that will add 4 more classrooms to accommodate art, music, etc. that were displaced ("art on a cart") by full day kindergarten classes. This school emphasizes "character" with students daily, and the school motto is "Crossroads Elementary - Where Excellence is the Standard." The school mascot is the Corgi, a funny little cute breed that has traditionally been viewed as a "loyal" dog that "protects" the Queen of England. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
