Fairview Attendance Center

Summary:

Fairview Attendance Center is a small elementary school in Golden, Mississippi, serving 118 students in grades K-6. Despite having a high percentage of economically disadvantaged students, the school consistently outperforms the Itawamba County School District and the state of Mississippi in various academic assessments.

Fairview Attendance Center stands out for its strong academic performance, particularly in 3rd and 5th grade English Language Arts and Mathematics. The school has a significantly higher percentage of white students (94.92%) compared to the more diverse student populations of nearby schools like Tishomingo Elementary, Mooreville Elementary School, and Marietta Elementary School. Additionally, Fairview Attendance Center has a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 9.5 to 10.4 over the past three years.

The high percentage of students (over 97%) receiving free or reduced-price lunch at Fairview Attendance Center suggests a significant level of economic disadvantage among the student population. However, the school's consistent academic success despite these challenges indicates that it is effectively supporting its students and providing a quality education. This presents an opportunity to explore Fairview Attendance Center's best practices and strategies, which could potentially be replicated in other schools within the Itawamba County School District or across the state of Mississippi.

Open Quote I am very proud to say that both of my children are enrolled at Fairview Attendance Center. The principal and staff at Fairview, are caring and helpful at any time of the day. It is a small community, but everyone around this school will make you feel at home. Our children are very excited to learn at Fairview. I have a seventh grader and a second grader, and I am honored that they are taught by such wonderful people. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
