Power School

Summary:

Power School is an elementary school located in Power, MT, serving grades PK-6 with a total enrollment of 65 students. The school is part of the Dutton/Brady K-12 Schools district, which is ranked 76 out of 300 districts in Montana and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Power School has a relatively diverse student population, with 78.46% White, 4.62% Hispanic, 3.08% Asian, and 10.77% Native American students. This is higher diversity than nearby schools like Benton Lake School, which has a 100% White student body, and Fairfield Elementary, which is 94.77% White. Academically, Power School excels in mathematics and science, with 46.88% and 50% of students proficient or better, respectively, outperforming the state averages. However, the school's reading proficiency rate of 34.38% lags behind the state average of 46.03%.

While Power School has some strengths, its performance has been inconsistent over the years, with its statewide ranking ranging from 1st in 2010-2011 to 154th in 2014-2015. This suggests the school could benefit from a more comprehensive and consistent approach to academic improvement. Compared to nearby schools like Greenfield School and Fairfield Elementary, which have higher statewide rankings and better reading proficiency rates, Power School has room for improvement, particularly in strengthening its reading instruction and interventions.

Open Quote All my children attended Power Schools from Kindergarten through their Senior year of High School. All of them have stated what a wonderful school system they attended growing up. Not only did they learn academics with such caring and knowledgeable teachers, they learned life values and lessons from all employee's & staff members at Power Schools. My children feel they were very well prepared for college and life because of this outstanding commitment to every student from everyone at Power Schools. I could not be more PROUD than to say my children graduated from Power High School.
Sincerely,
Carol June Lehnerz Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
