Topsail Middle is a public middle school located in Hampstead, North Carolina, serving 807 students in grades 5-8. As part of the Pender County Schools district, Topsail Middle consistently ranks among the top 20% of middle schools in the state, maintaining a 4- or 5-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Academically, Topsail Middle's students outperform the state and district averages in proficiency rates for EOG tests in Mathematics, Reading, and Science. Topsail Middle's exceptional performance extends to specific student groups, with its female, Hispanic, and multi-racial students consistently ranking in the top 20% of North Carolina middle schools. The school also supports its special education, military-connected, and gifted and talented student populations well. While the racial imbalance may be an area for the school to examine, Topsail Middle's overall academic excellence and ability to cater to diverse student needs make it a standout middle school in the region, outperforming nearby schools like Williston Middle and Roland-Grise Middle.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote There is a new principle for the years 2015/2016 as the new one we just met last year quit before starting. There are many problems with the dismissal at the end of the day. First of all its a free for all parking lot to pick up your child with parents speeding around the lot because the pick up line is a joke, sometimes there are two helpers which don't do much as far as Help. When you try to leave the school with your child you are stopped by the school busses because at the circle they cut you off so you can't leave, also the other bus drivers can speed by and get out as fast as they can, not to mention the high school students also get out the same time and also follow the path of the buses speeding by. I brought the problems up to the new Principle but she states There is No Problem, being clueless in any school problems is her specialty. There is a big problem with bullying as I used to work there but again, Not a problem. Most of the teachers are great but a few have a mean streak that they take out on the kids in the lunch room daily. So in other words be careful in the parking lot and don't talk to Mrs Clueless. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
