Carl Albert Middle School

Summary:

Carl Albert Middle School is a public middle school in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, serving 856 students in grades 6-8. It is part of the Midwest City-Del City school district, which is ranked 260 out of 342 districts in the state.

Carl Albert Middle School stands out as a relatively stronger performer within its district, with consistently higher academic proficiency across various subjects and grade levels compared to the district and state averages. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, 39% of 6th graders at Carl Albert were proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to 27% for the district and 39% for the state. Similarly, in 7th grade Math, 38% of Carl Albert students were proficient or better, compared to 16% for the district and 29% for the state. The school also has a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 16.4 to 19.0, compared to the nearby Del City Middle School (14.8) and Midwest City Middle School (20.3).

However, while Carl Albert Middle School outperforms its district and state, its own performance has declined over the years, with its statewide ranking dropping from 30th out of 332 middle schools in 2015-2016 to 130th out of 189 in 2023-2024, and its SchoolDigger star rating decreasing from 5 stars to 2 stars during this period. Additionally, the school has a higher percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 42.32% to 53.39%, compared to the nearby schools, which may indicate a more economically disadvantaged student population. Overall, Carl Albert Middle School appears to be a relatively stronger performer within its district, but its declining performance and potential socioeconomic factors warrant further investigation and attention.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Great school wonderful opportunities for kids that are not often found everywhere. Especially trying to find those that do not just include sports. My daughter started sixth grade this year and has now taken intro industrial shop (woodshop)and vocal music choir, next semester she'll be taking communications! When I was in sixth grade we still just were allowed the basics, none of these extra cool classes here at Carl Albert. She also had the opportunity to join the swim team as well. The teachers are great they have up to date teaching tools and the campus is beautiful complete with football field, tennis courts, soccer field, and then some. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
