Red Oak Elementary School

Summary:

Red Oak Elementary School is a public elementary school serving grades PK-6 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, with 491 students. It is part of the Moore School District, which is ranked 144 out of 342 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger. Despite serving a relatively high percentage of economically disadvantaged students, Red Oak Elementary has consistently outperformed the district and state averages in standardized test scores across multiple grade levels and subjects.

In the 2023-2024 school year, 72% of 3rd graders at Red Oak Elementary were proficient or better in ELA, compared to 64% for the Moore district and 51% for Oklahoma. This pattern of academic excellence extends to other grades and subjects as well. Additionally, Red Oak has maintained a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 15.2 to 16.3 over the past few years, which may contribute to its strong performance. When compared to nearby schools in the Moore district, such as Wayland Bonds Elementary and Fisher Elementary, Red Oak stands out as a top performer, especially in the upper elementary grades.

While Red Oak Elementary has been a consistently high-performing school, ranking as high as 40th out of 498 Oklahoma elementary schools in the 2015-2016 school year, its statewide ranking has declined to 149th in 2023-2024. This could indicate that the school is facing challenges in maintaining its level of excellence or that other schools in the state are improving at a faster rate. Nonetheless, Red Oak's strong academic results, low student-teacher ratio, and potential best practices make it an interesting case study for understanding the factors that contribute to academic success in elementary schools.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Every teacher at Red Oak is very impatient and rude with their students. They do not want to teach the students, they want the children to already know everything. My son's teacher was verbally abusive to him everyday! She told him everyday that he could NOT learn and caused the other students to laugh at him in class! You never tell a child that they can not learn! The principal does nothing and does not care if the student has a problem with a teacher. She only cares if a teacher has a problem with a student. Even the secretary in the office is rude! The entire school has been horrible to my son and I wish I could move out of the Red Oak district! We will have to do something else because my child is miserable at Red Oak. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
