Pond Creek-Hunter High School

Summary:

Pond Creek-Hunter High School is a public high school in Pond Creek, Oklahoma, serving 113 students in grades 9-12. The school's performance has fluctuated over the years, with its statewide ranking ranging from 69th to 202nd out of 431 Oklahoma high schools, and its SchoolDigger star rating varying between 3 and 4 stars out of 5.

While the school has seen relatively strong four-year graduation rates, its academic performance, as measured by proficiency rates in English Language Arts and Mathematics, has shown a declining trend in recent years. The school's performance also varies across different student subgroups, with female and white students outperforming their male and special education counterparts. Interestingly, when compared to nearby high schools like Chisholm High School and Medford High School, Pond Creek-Hunter High School performs relatively well in terms of statewide ranking and rating.

Despite the school's relatively high spending of $21,294 per student, which is significantly higher than the state average, its academic performance is not commensurate with the level of investment. This suggests the need to evaluate the effectiveness of resource allocation and explore ways to optimize the use of funds to improve student outcomes. Additionally, the school's high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 45.37% to 53.98%, may indicate the presence of socioeconomic challenges that could impact student learning and achievement, and addressing these factors through targeted support and community partnerships could be beneficial.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My 3 kids attended PCH and succeed academically in spite of, not because of, the school system.
Their priorities are athletics, Future Farmers, and so on, not academics. The low ACT averages, number of students having to take remedial courses, etc speaks for itself.
Yet they continue to build new gyms, new football fields, new scoreboards, new locker rooms, and I believe a soon to be new high school building.

Their best academically minded teacher quit after his son graduated. He told my sons that he looked at the groups of students coming up from grade and middle school and didn't see anything to get excited about academically. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
