Apollo Elementary School

Summary:

Apollo Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Bethany, Oklahoma, serving grades PK-5 with a student population of 509. The school is part of the Putnam City School District, which is ranked 298 out of 342 districts in Oklahoma and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Apollo Elementary School has consistently underperformed compared to the Putnam City district and the state of Oklahoma in standardized test scores. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, only 37% of 4th-grade students were proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to 33% for Putnam City and 47% for the state. Similarly, in 3rd-grade math, only 22% of students were proficient or better, compared to 27% for Putnam City and 38% for the state. The school's performance for specific student subgroups is also concerning, with Apollo ranking 67th out of 97 Oklahoma elementary schools for Hispanic students, 42nd out of 58 for English Language Learners, and 452nd out of 506 for students of low socioeconomic status.

Despite the school's poor academic performance, Apollo Elementary School's spending per student ($8,920 in 2018-2019) is on par with or slightly higher than the spending at other nearby Putnam City schools, and the school has a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 13.7 to 14.9 over the past few years. This suggests that factors such as socioeconomic status, English language proficiency, and access to resources and support services may be contributing to the school's academic challenges. Addressing these underlying issues may be crucial for improving student outcomes at Apollo Elementary School.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Leadership is extremely poor, and the lack of communication is unbelievable. The principal rarely makes eye contact, and her ability to lead is so bad. She doesn't appear to even know her students. I would never recommend this school. If home schooling is an option, then that is what I recommend. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
