William Tennent High School

Summary:

William Tennent High School is a public high school located in Warminster, Pennsylvania, serving 1,774 students in grades 9-12. The school is part of the Centennial School District, which is ranked 351 out of 610 school districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

While William Tennent High School has consistently ranked in the lower half of Pennsylvania high schools, with a ranking between 465-467 out of 674-686 schools in the past two years, the school faces several challenges. Its academic performance, as measured by Keystone Exam proficiency rates, lags behind the state average and nearby high-performing schools like Jenkintown Middle/High School and Abington Senior High School. The school also struggles to effectively serve certain student subgroups, ranking in the bottom 20% of Pennsylvania high schools for Asian, African American, and White student performance, though it performs relatively well for English Language Learner (ELL) students.

Additionally, William Tennent High School has a higher percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds (33.03%) compared to nearby schools, which may be a contributing factor to its lower academic performance. The school's four-year graduation rate of 87-90% is slightly below the state average, and its dropout rate of 0.6-1.6% is on par with the state. These trends suggest the need for the school and district to focus on improving instructional practices, implementing targeted interventions, and fostering a more equitable and inclusive learning environment to better support all students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Teachers do not personally communicate with parents, they love sending generic emails about grades and the end of marking period. If your child is at risk or needs extra help you will be hard pressed to find a teacher in that building willing to stay and work with underperforming students. I wish I could say it was only a few bad apples. There is a sense of arrogance that the staff carries with them, students find their teachers unapproachable and the students don’t believe that they care. This high school needs a complete overhaul by the PA Dept. of Education. They need to do better by offering more options and opportunities for mentoring/tutoring in the school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
