A. R. Rucker Middle

Summary:

A. R. Rucker Middle is a public middle school located in Lancaster, South Carolina, serving 519 students in grades 6-8. The school is part of the Lancaster 01 school district, which is ranked 30 out of 75 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

A. R. Rucker Middle faces significant challenges in improving academic performance, with consistently low rankings and test scores that are significantly below the state and district averages, particularly in English Language Arts and Mathematics. The school has a diverse student population, with a high percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, and its performance is particularly low for African American, Hispanic, and low-socioeconomic status students. In comparison, nearby schools such as Indian Land Middle, Andrew Jackson Middle, and Buford Middle generally perform better academically, with higher proficiency rates on state assessments and higher SchoolDigger rankings.

However, A. R. Rucker Middle has performed relatively better for English Language Learner and disabled student subgroups, and the school has also excelled on the End-of-Course exam for Algebra 1/Mathematics for the Technologies 2, with proficiency rates exceeding the district and state averages. These findings suggest that the school has the potential to improve its overall academic performance with targeted interventions and support to address the underlying factors contributing to the achievement gap.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school has poor support for it's teachers. Most of the teachers are highly qualified and educated, but the administration rarely trusts their judgement, including teachers who have been recognized by the district as teacher of the year. The administration too often want to please the parents because it fears lawsuits that it loses the trust and faith from the teachers. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
