Clinton Middle

Summary:

Clinton Middle is a public middle school in Clinton, South Carolina, serving 663 students in grades 6-8. The school is part of the Laurens 56 school district, which is ranked 28 out of 75 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Clinton Middle consistently outperforms the Laurens 56 district and the state of South Carolina in standardized test scores, particularly in EOCEP/Algebra 1/Mathematics for the Technologies 2, where 98.18% of students were proficient or better in 2023-2024, compared to 85.52% for Laurens 56 and 72.5% for the state. However, the school's statewide ranking has steadily declined over the years, from 130th out of 291 middle schools in 2013-2014 to 186th out of 325 in 2023-2024, with a corresponding drop in its SchoolDigger star rating from 3 to 2 stars. Additionally, there are significant performance gaps between different student subgroups, with Clinton Middle ranking 194th out of 255 middle schools for White students, but only 141st out of 248 for African American students.

Compared to nearby schools like Woodruff Middle and Newberry Middle, Clinton Middle has lower test scores in most subjects, particularly in mathematics, where the proficiency rates are significantly lower than the state average. The school's high free and reduced lunch rate of 100%, coupled with the relatively high spending per student of $12,626, suggests that Clinton Middle is serving a population with significant socioeconomic challenges, which may contribute to the performance gaps observed between different student subgroups.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The ranking along tells you how bad this school is but to be honest I believe it is more because of the higher staff than anything else. The staff are dishonest (repeatedly) and the principal supports it and tells the parent it is none of their business. This was my first experience when I asked why my child with many high grades were being singled out by the assistant principal (which is the one that lied). I am so worried they will continue this with other students and make them hate to go to school the way they have made mine hate it. Sad does not even come close to describing how my child feels about going here everyday but unfortunately this is the only middle school in our district. If you have a choice of getting your child in different middle school, I suggest you do, for your child's sake. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
