East End Elementary

Summary:

East End Elementary is a public elementary school located in Easley, South Carolina, serving grades PK-5 with a student population of 574. The school is part of the Pickens 01 School District, which is ranked 16th out of 75 districts in the state and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

East End Elementary has a more diverse student population compared to nearby schools, with higher percentages of African American (12.89%) and Hispanic (12.54%) students. While the school's academic performance is generally on par with or slightly above the district and state averages, particularly in the 3rd and 4th grade levels, its 5th grade performance is slightly below. The school has consistently ranked in the top half of South Carolina elementary schools, with a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger in recent years. However, the school's ranking has fluctuated, ranging from 120th to 249th out of over 600 elementary schools in the state. East End Elementary has seen a significant increase in the percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, from 51.53% in 2020-2021 to 77.87% in 2022-2023, indicating a higher concentration of economically disadvantaged students compared to nearby schools.

The increase in spending per student at East End Elementary, from $8,164 in 2019-2020 to $10,500 in 2022-2023, and the improvement in student-teacher ratio, from 14.7 in 2020-2021 to 12.6 in 2022-2023, suggest that the school is investing more resources to support student learning and academic achievement. However, the school's performance on standardized assessments has not shown a corresponding significant improvement, indicating that the increased resources may not be fully translating into improved academic outcomes. Nearby schools, such as Powdersville Elementary and Forest Acres Elementary, consistently outperform East End Elementary and the state on standardized assessments, highlighting the challenges the school faces in maintaining its competitiveness.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school is fantastic. My boys have been attending this school for 3 years. The teachers and other staff are very informative and communication is a top priority. They challenge the students everyday. They always listen to your concerns and keep you very informed of your children's behavior, grades, etc. I have never had a problem from this school and I am grateful for the teachers my children have been blessed enough to have. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
