Ignite Community School - Huntsville

Summary:

Ignite Community School - Huntsville is a public charter elementary school serving grades PK-8 in Huntsville, Texas, with a diverse student population of over 500 students. Ignite Community School - Huntsville has shown mixed performance on STAAR assessments compared to the state and its district, Huntsville Independent School District (Isd). The school performs better than the state average in some grade levels and subjects, but it lags behind the district's performance in most areas. For example, in 3rd grade reading, Ignite's proficiency was 51.22% compared to the state's 48.85% and the district's 49.72%, but in 5th grade math, Ignite's proficiency was only 19.15%, compared to the district's 46.34% and the state's 48.96%. The school's performance for Hispanic, White, and English Language Learner students has been significantly lower, ranking in the bottom 25% of Texas elementary schools in these subgroups.

Ignite Community School - Huntsville's overall performance, as measured by its statewide ranking and SchoolDigger star rating, has declined over the past several years, dropping from 1,868 out of 4,578 Texas elementary schools in 2020-2021 to 3,210 out of 4,675 in 2023-2024, with its star rating decreasing from 3 to 2. The school's performance is generally lower than that of nearby traditional public schools, such as Huntsville Elementary and Scott Johnson Elementary, which have higher STAAR proficiency rates and better overall rankings. However, Ignite does outperform some of the other nearby charter and virtual schools, such as Texas Online Preparatory Elementary.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I first became aware of these charter schools when my own sons were having a hard time at the local public schools. I have found these schools to be great! The staff at these schools took a personal interest in my sons. In fact, one is currently attending SFA University and majoring in education. He was inspired to pursue teaching because of great teachers that he had! Close Quote

Open Quote Well I strongly disagree with the outrageous alligations that I have just read. It is true that we are entitled to our own opinion but one must question if it was so horrible why would you stay for so long. I presently have two children that attend THE WONDERFUL VISTA ACADEMY OF HUNTSVILLE and I have had three to attend THE EVER SO LOVING PREMIER HIGH SCHOOL. I have only great things to say about these schools and there staff. I would recommend my worst enemy to come and enjoy all that they have to offer. That being said Ms. Williams wont you join us. These schools cater to everyone including parents. I love it and wouldnt change a thing..........Love you Vista and Premier..... Close Quote

Open Quote I've had 4 children in Vista and Premier high school in Huntsville. Academics are well below par. My two youngest, 1st and 3rd grade, were both bullied horribly and the staff did absolutely nothing about it. My youngest was bullied to the point that he was vomiting daily. They have since been removed and will NEVER be forced to go back. It seems like there is some strange correlation between the school and the Family Faith church it is physically attached to. I would warn all others before sending their student to this school, the staff seems friendly to begin with, but if you question anything, their attitude changes very quickly! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
