Jubilee Wells Branch

Summary:

Jubilee Wells Branch is an alternative public charter school in Austin, Texas that serves grades PK-12, with a student population of 451. As part of the Texas College Preparatory Academies district, which is ranked 854 out of 968 districts in Texas and has a 1-star rating, Jubilee Wells Branch faces some significant challenges.

The school has a more diverse student population compared to surrounding schools, with a higher percentage of African American (31.71%) and Hispanic (39.91%) students. However, Jubilee Wells Branch has had relatively high dropout rates in recent years, ranging from 1.6% to 3.9%, which is higher than the state average. Academically, the school's performance on STAAR tests is generally lower than the state and district averages across most grade levels and subjects, with proficiency rates in reading and math significantly below the state averages. Additionally, Jubilee Wells Branch has a high percentage of students (over 70%) who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a higher proportion of economically disadvantaged students compared to nearby schools.

When compared to nearby charter schools like Founders Classical Academy of Leander, Gateway College Preparatory School, and Meridian World School LLC, which have significantly higher proficiency rates on STAAR tests, Jubilee Wells Branch's academic performance lags behind. This combination of a diverse, economically disadvantaged student population, high dropout rates, and lower academic achievement suggests that the school may face significant challenges in supporting its students' educational and developmental needs.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Most of the administration and teaching staff are not passionate about teaching and nurturing the children. We ran into lots of racism in the administration after several terrible leadership decisions. We were also denied our rights for our our children to receive special services that they had IEPs for. Do not take your children here, please. Close Quote

Open Quote Maybe the people who work here are making these reviews I don't know. However, the school is HORRIBLE. Please don't send your child here. There is a serve bullying issue. Also, the is an extreme lack of communication between parent and school party Close Quote

Open Quote This is my 4th year as a parent and yes there have been some challenges in the past, but the new staff are amazing. I have two kids there and I’m excited that even though one is in elementary and the other in Middle school I only make one stop to pick them up. Close Quote

Open Quote Forget the school ratings. My two children attend this school and we love it! It's the only high school around that allows 9th graders multiple dual credit DC (high school college credits). She will have 3 or 4 DC done this year, and will have a medical undergrad degree before finishing high school. The staff is amazing and helps each kid achieve their career dreams! That is so important when you kid plans on attending Johns Hopkins to be a trauma surgeon! Close Quote

Open Quote Jubilee has undertaken major efforts in the area of staff, customer service and overall branding. The new staff is fresh and inspired. I like the new-and-improved presentation, professionalism and energy. My kids attend and are really finding it rewarding. It's a small community with significant impact. I strongly recommend, Jubilee Austin. Close Quote

Open Quote This school has changed so much in the past 2 years, the prior reviews do not mean anything. The new Principals and Superintendent are parent and student friendly. If your child needs a small school where teachers are attentive, this is the place. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
