Sst Excellence

Summary:

Sst Excellence is a public charter middle school in Houston, Texas, serving 131 students in grades 5-8. The school is part of the School of Science and Technology district, which is ranked 174 out of 968 districts in Texas and has a 4-star rating.

Sst Excellence stands out for its high percentage of Hispanic students (74.81%) compared to nearby schools, which range from 58.22% to 95.16% Hispanic. The school's academic performance is mixed, with strong results in 8th grade reading (71% proficient) and 5th grade math (70% proficient), but struggles in 7th grade reading (27% proficient) and 7th grade math (33% proficient). Notably, Sst Excellence has performed well for certain student subgroups, such as African American and Hispanic students, but lags behind in serving special education and gifted and talented students. The school has maintained a 0% dropout rate, a significant achievement compared to the surrounding Aldine Independent School District schools, which have reported dropout rates ranging from 0.0% to 3.2%.

Sst Excellence generally outperforms the nearby Harmony School Of Technology-Houston and Young Women's Leadership Academy in academic metrics, but the school faces challenges due to the high poverty rates in the surrounding area, with 85.97% to 92.46% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. This suggests the school serves a community with significant economic challenges, which may contribute to the academic struggles observed in some areas.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Horrible, traumatizing experience! We relocated from Honduras and were under the false impression our kids needed private schools. Where we come from private schools are the only way to receive a strong education. We thought charter schools were a good alternative. Our daughter was miserable. The teachers would speak to the principals but the upper management promoted bullying. They refused to remove dangerous children and bullies. Our son was so far behind due to problem children in the classroom who had been removed from other schools. Lucky for us we took our children out of the school and our local public schools are highly rated. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
