Reilly Elementary

Summary:

Reilly Elementary is a public elementary school in Austin, Texas, serving 344 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Austin Independent School District, which is ranked 554 out of 968 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Reilly Elementary stands out for its diverse student population, with a higher percentage of Hispanic (56.69%) and two or more races (7.27%) students compared to nearby schools like Gullett Elementary (72.57% White) and Brentwood Elementary (64.29% White). Academically, Reilly Elementary outperforms the Austin ISD and Texas state averages in STAAR Reading and Mathematics proficiency across multiple grade levels. However, the school's Hispanic and English Language Learner (ELL) students perform significantly below the state average, while its Gifted and Talented students also struggle to meet expectations.

Despite Reilly Elementary's overall strong performance, the school has faced a concerning trend of declining statewide rankings, dropping from 994 out of 4,479 Texas elementary schools in 2018-2019 to 1,487 out of 4,647 in 2022-2023. This decline is particularly evident in the school's Hispanic and ELL student groups, which have consistently ranked in the bottom 1-2 stars out of 5 in recent years. Addressing these achievement gaps and reversing the declining performance trend will be crucial for Reilly Elementary's continued success.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote On it's way to Excellent. This school did go through a rough patch but with it's new administration there have been many positive changes and several newly implemented programs and re-vamped programs will only make the school better. I live in the neighborhood and hope to see more of our neighbors' children attending Reilly in the years to come. Close Quote

Open Quote My son is white, and he loves this school. He's in a dual-language program there, and the new principal, Ms. Saenz, is fantastic. We are a high-income family that bought a house in the neighborhood and are committed to our neighborhood school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
