Summary:

McRoberts Elementary is a public elementary school in Katy, Texas, serving 708 students in grades PK-5. It is part of the Katy Independent School District (ISD), which is ranked 158 out of 968 districts in Texas and has a 4-star rating.

McRoberts Elementary has a diverse student population, with a higher percentage of Hispanic students (69.92%) compared to the district and state averages. The school consistently ranks in the top 25-30% of Texas elementary schools, though its ranking dropped to the top 40% in the 2020-2021 school year. While the school generally performs better than the state average on STAAR tests, it lags behind the Katy ISD district average, particularly in mathematics and science. With over 75% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, McRoberts Elementary serves a relatively low-income student population.

When compared to other nearby elementary schools within the Katy ISD, such as Sundown Elementary and Jack & Sharon Rhoads Elementary, McRoberts Elementary generally performs on par or slightly below the district average. However, the school excels in serving its African American and Hispanic student populations, ranking in the top 15-20% of Texas elementary schools for these subgroups. Despite the school's high percentage of economically disadvantaged students, McRoberts Elementary has consistently ranked in the top 5-10% of Texas elementary schools for this subgroup, indicating effective support for its low-income population.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The teachers and administrators are horrible. They don't care about this kids. Most are just there to collect a pay check. It feels like an inner-city school. Close Quote

Open Quote McRobert's is poorly led and unethical. They have done little to nothing to stop bullying in the school but have no problem harassing parents who keep their sick children home from school, even threatening with legal action and insisting that kids go to school sick! One administrator admitted over the phone that they need the kids in the classroom at least until 10 am or so when attendance is taken so that they can get their funding. After that, the sick child can go to the nurse's office, get checked out, and go home. This obvious disregard for children's health and emphasis on getting money at any cost makes McRoberts a school to avoid. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
