Treasure Forest Elementary

Summary:

Treasure Forest Elementary is a public elementary school in Houston, Texas, serving 405 students in grades K-5. The school is part of the Spring Branch Independent School District (SBISD), which is ranked 318 out of 968 districts in Texas and has a 3-star rating.

Treasure Forest Elementary faces significant challenges in providing a quality education to its students. The school has a consistently high percentage of Hispanic students (over 90%) and an extremely high percentage of students (over 96%) eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a high level of economic disadvantage. Academically, Treasure Forest Elementary consistently ranks in the bottom quartile of Texas elementary schools, with 1-star ratings from SchoolDigger for most years and STAAR test scores that are significantly lower than the SBISD and state averages across all grade levels and subjects. Despite having the highest per-student spending among the nearby schools, with $12,867 spent per student in the 2020-2021 school year, the school's academic performance remains poor.

In comparison, nearby schools such as Edgewood Elementary, Spring Branch Elementary, and Hollibrook Elementary have similar demographic profiles but perform significantly better on academic measures. This suggests that there may be opportunities for Treasure Forest Elementary to learn from the practices and strategies of its higher-performing counterparts and implement a comprehensive, data-driven approach to school improvement to address the root causes of its persistent underperformance.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The teachers here are truly great, but due to the administration here, I am not able to give this school more than one star. It is shocking how rude and unprofessional someone can be who is supposed to be running a place of learning. Close Quote

Open Quote Treasure Forest Elementary is a wonderful school. The high level of education and dedication that these educators have along with their love for teaching is exceptional. They truly care for the community they serve. These professionals go above and beyond the norm to be there for their students and help them in every way possible in order to provide the best current methods of eduction they can offer.
Something that stood out to me recently was the renovation of the school playground. This playground is more impressive then even several private school playgrounds at other schools I have toured. People around the community along with staff members were involved with this project and created a beautiful safe playground for the children. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
