Pine Forest Elementary

Summary:

Pine Forest Elementary is a public elementary school located in Vidor, Texas, serving grades PK-4 with a student population of 606. The school is part of the Vidor Independent School District, which is ranked 497 out of 968 districts in Texas and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

While Pine Forest Elementary has a relatively low student-to-teacher ratio and higher per-student spending than the district average, the school has faced significant academic challenges in recent years. Its STAAR test scores in reading and math for 3rd and 4th grades are generally lower than the state averages, and the school's statewide ranking has dropped from 696 out of 4,320 Texas elementary schools in 2014-2015 to 2962 out of 4,647 in 2022-2023. This decline in performance is in contrast to the nearby Vidor Elementary and Oak Forest Elementary, which have maintained relatively stable rankings. Additionally, Pine Forest Elementary struggles with achievement gaps, performing relatively well for Hispanic students but significantly lower for White students and students with special needs.

The school's high percentage of students (62.87%) who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch suggests that it faces significant socioeconomic challenges, which may be impacting its overall academic performance. While the nearby Vidor Elementary and Oak Forest Elementary also have high percentages of economically disadvantaged students, Pine Forest Elementary's performance for this subgroup has declined more sharply in recent years. Addressing these disparities and the school's socioeconomic challenges may be key to improving its overall performance and ranking within the state.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote All 3 of my daughters have attended Pine Forest Elementary. My oldest daughter is at VJHS now, where she is excelling, thanks to the teachers at Pine Forest Elem. My other 2 are still there, and they're getting top notch educations. I know the teachers, they keep in touch with the parents, and they make learning fun for their students. I cannot imagine taking them to any other district. I went to Oak Forest Elementary in Vidor, and that was an excellent school all those years ago, so I imagine that's still the case. My sister, myself and our mother, are all graduates of Vidor High School, where we received excellent educations, that made it possible for all of us to go to college, prepared. The teachers at Vidor, are so caring, and concerned for their students, they give a lot of themselves to each student. It becomes emotional for these teachers. If you are looking to move to Vidor, Pine Forest Elementary truly prepares each child for middles school and beyond, and they care so much about each child. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
