Windsor School

Summary:

Windsor School is a public elementary school in Orem, Utah, serving 569 students in grades PK-6 and part of the Alpine School District. While the school has a more diverse student population compared to nearby schools, with a higher percentage of Hispanic students, it has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Utah elementary schools, with a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger in recent years.

Windsor School's test scores in RISE/English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science are generally lower than the Alpine District and state averages across all grade levels. For example, in 2023-2024, the percentage of 6th-grade students proficient or better in RISE/Mathematics was 29.7% at Windsor School, compared to 47.2% in the Alpine District and 35.6% statewide. Additionally, Windsor School has a higher percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch (48.51% in 2022-2023) compared to the nearby schools, which range from around 20% to 27%.

The nearby schools, such as Lindon School, Foothill School, and Northridge School, consistently outperform Windsor School in terms of school ranking, test scores, and student demographics. This suggests that there may be opportunities for Windsor School to learn from the practices and strategies of these higher-performing schools and implement targeted interventions to improve student outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I have loved Windsor. I think it's unfortunate that all the ratings come from test scores. Many children are not native English speakers (which hurts test scores). The teachers are excellent, and the principal is doing great things for the school as well. I also love the class sizes. Close Quote

Open Quote I have a 4th grader, 2nd grader, and a pre-schooler at Windsor. The two older ones are in the dual-language program, and next year we are excited that Windsor will be rolling-out dual-language for kindergarten as well! I have found the teaching staff to be helpful, friendly, and more than dedicated to my kids' success. Of course no teacher is perfect, but from my experience I have found my children's teachers to be very supportive and eager to work through issues as they arise. They communicate concerns and successes as they come up, and I love the online access I have as a parent to see what my kids' grades are at any given point. No need to wait till report cards come out or parent-teacher conferences. We also greatly enjoy the diverse cultural environment at Windsor, and that our children are not only learning Spanish in the classroom, but are also getting to use it on the playground with native Spanish speakers. We feel very blessed to be able to enroll our kids at such a wonderful school. Close Quote

Open Quote Many teachers at Windsor have advanced degrees and continually attend professional development courses. This shows how dedicated our teachers are at perfecting their craft and have an attitude of continuous improvement. Grade level teachers collaborate every Monday to make sure all students are learning at high levels. Windsor is on the cutting edge of technology. All classrooms have Smart Boards which all teachers receive training in how to use. The school has two computer labs, and each upper grade level have Chrome books for classroom use. Windsor fosters a community of students that understand and exhibit the Windsor Five "Responsibility, Integrity, Courage, Compassion, and Respect." Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
