Channing Hall

Summary:

Channing Hall is a public charter elementary school in Draper, Utah, serving 568 students from kindergarten to 8th grade. This high-performing school consistently ranks among the top elementary schools in the state, with strong academic outcomes that exceed state averages across multiple grade levels and subject areas.

Channing Hall's academic excellence is evident in its impressive performance on the RISE assessments. In the 2023-2024 school year, the school's proficiency rates in English Language Arts ranged from 43.2% (6th grade) to 62.1% (3rd grade), compared to the state averages of 47.4% to 46.7%. In Mathematics, Channing Hall's proficiency rates ranged from 22.7% (8th grade) to 65.1% (3rd grade), compared to the state averages of 39.1% to 49.1%. The school's science proficiency rates also exceeded the state averages, with 4th-grade students scoring 55.3% proficient or better, compared to the state average of 50%.

Channing Hall's diverse student population, with a higher percentage of non-White students compared to many nearby schools, is another key differentiating factor. The school's relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 17.9 to 18.7 over the past three school years, suggests that students may receive more individualized attention and support, which could contribute to the school's strong academic performance. While some nearby charter schools, such as Summit Academy - Independence and American Preparatory Academy - Draper #2, also demonstrate impressive academic results, Channing Hall's unique blend of academic excellence and diversity provides a valuable educational experience for its students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Our son was attending a local public school for kindergarten. He cried every single day and was not excited to go to school. Two weeks into the new school year we got a call from Channing Hall about an opening. We toured the school and decided to take our son out of the one school and enroll him in Channing. His attitude about school changed drastically. He looked forward to school every single day and was even upset when he had to miss it because of an illness. He is currently in his second year (first grade) at Channing and he LOVES it! That love of school has translated into his love of learning. This is the best school! Close Quote

Open Quote The IB program is genius. We have benefited from our child's enrollment and participation in such a program. It focuses on becoming an agile learner - open to new ideas and non-traditional ways to solve problems. Our daughter has thrived in the creative environment and has a better understanding of her place and role in our community and the world. We are big supporters of Channing Hall. Close Quote

Open Quote We have been VERY pleased with how Channing Hall has helped educate our children for the past 6 years. Channing hall embraces independent thinking and caring about others but also encourages risk-taking and global thinking. Our kids feel safe at the school both emotionally and physically. Teachers show a complete dedication to the students and are supported by many volunteer parents in the classrooms. This is a public charter school the gives you the quality of a private school. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
