Summary:

Hawthorne Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Everett, Washington, serving grades PK-5 with a student population of 444. The school is part of the Everett School District, which is ranked 43 out of 247 school districts in Washington and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Despite being part of a relatively high-performing district, Hawthorne Elementary consistently ranks in the bottom 10-15% of Washington elementary schools, with significantly lower academic performance compared to the district and state averages. The school's diverse student population, with a higher percentage of Hispanic, Pacific Islander, and African American students, as well as a significantly higher percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, suggests equity concerns within the school.

Neighboring schools within the Everett School District, such as Lowell Elementary, View Ridge Elementary, and Garfield Elementary, demonstrate significantly higher academic performance compared to Hawthorne Elementary. The stark contrast in performance between Hawthorne and these nearby schools within the same district highlights the need for a deeper understanding of the factors contributing to the disparities and the implementation of targeted interventions to address the persistent challenges faced by Hawthorne Elementary.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Went to this school for grades 1 through 5 and enjoyed all 5 years I attended there. Keep in mind this was the early 90's, and at least back then the teachers were competent, likable, and I learned a lot during my years there.

I can't really say how the school is these days, things changed over time. Hopefully it has changed for the better. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
