Madison Elementary

Summary:

Madison Elementary is a public elementary school located in Madison, West Virginia, serving grades PK-5 with a student population of 273. The school is part of the Boone County Schools district, which is ranked 31 out of 55 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Madison Elementary has a significantly higher percentage of white students (96.7%) compared to the state average, and its academic performance is mixed. The school outperforms the state and district in 3rd grade mathematics and English language arts, but underperforms in 4th and 5th grade. Additionally, Madison Elementary significantly underperforms the state and district in 5th grade science. The school's strong performance for special education students is a bright spot, but its average performance for other student groups, such as white students and low socioeconomic status students, suggests a need to address the unique needs of all students. The school's fluctuating statewide ranking and star rating over the years indicate that its performance is not stable or consistent.

When compared to nearby schools, Sherman Elementary School significantly outperforms Madison Elementary and the state in both mathematics and English language arts across all grade levels, ranking 11th out of 368 West Virginia elementary schools and earning a 5-star rating. Other nearby schools, such as Ashford-Rumble Elementary and Van Elementary, have a similar racial makeup to Madison Elementary but generally lower academic performance, suggesting that the school's racial composition may not be the sole factor influencing academic outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote MES is one of the best schools in the area. My husband and I are happy with the staff and the curriculum. Close Quote

Open Quote MES is located in a quiet neighborhood free from busy traffic and noise. They recently added a section to one end of the school that includes two new class rooms and an additional bathroom. This new addition was much needed to accommodate the increase number of students that are enrolling here. I think people who live in Boone County want their kids to go to MES instead of any other elementary in the county. It's a great school with wonderful teachers who truly care about the kids they teach. My child has been at MES for three years now and we would not consider ever moving him out. His grades have been excellent every year and I feel he is learning at a rapid pace. Keep up the good work MES staff! Close Quote

Open Quote The staff at MES are extremely caring and thoughtful to the children. On rainy days, they meet kids at the bus stop and walk them to the door under an umbrella. They send home weekly newsletters so parents know what to expect all week long. I love that my child is at MES. These are just a few of the ways they go above and beyond. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
