As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The faculty and staff are great, and I believe they are working to make every student as successful as possible. It is our understanding that when Blackhurst re-opened a few years ago, many of the teachers and administrators in the building had other options in the district, but chose to teach there. My sense from meeting the teachers, participating in classroom activities as a room parent, and attending the various student and family events over the course of a year, is that very few of them are phoning it in. I think if you are looking at test scores, and you see poor performance, it has more to do with this school having a higher (but not overwhelming) transient and low income population than the other schools in St. Charles. I have no data to back this up, but wouldn't be surprised if you looked at the data more granularly and found many of these kids outperforming their income peers in other schools. It is also a very diverse school, ethnically and economically, which probably benefits all the students, since this school looks more like the country we live in than most. Any kid with parental support and family values that stress learning will do well here. The biggest surprise is the variety of clubs and activities - gardening, running, newspaper, radio, lego, art, science, etc. The school (and possibly entire district?) has also taken a "7 habits" approach to classroom instruction, and made it a pretty core part of their mission. All in all, good stuff, and recommended. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
