Crockett Echs

I went to this school a few times to substitute for some teachers. I am a certified teacher here in Texas with a Masters' degree in education. I was totally disappointed with the way professionals are treated in this school. The staff is generally quite cold and rude. The administrative assistants and clerks are rude and act as if they are doing a favor to you when they are asked to assist you with anything! I had one of the worst experiences in my life when going to that school to support other teachers! The assistant principals barely look at you and act as if you are an annoyance if you try to address them regarding any educational matter! The students are rude and disrespectful! Girls and boys make out in the corridors and no one seems to care about the situation!! Girls go to school half naked and behave provocatively in front of teachers! Honestly, I think this school is a disgrace! I a mother of a beautiful daughter and I would NEVER allow my daughter to step foot in that school!

Crockett High School is what you make of it. Whether you want to achieve great scholastic accomplishments or buy a bag of marijuana, you can find it here. Some of the teachers genuinely care for their students, while others phone it in on a daily basis. The AP courses are challenging and inspire the students to strive for greatness, while the regular classes are lazily corralled. There is no middle ground at this school, and it shows in the student body. As a former student, I was quick to realize the high-performing students comprised the majority of the active student body at any function, while the other students were mostly absent.

Crockett has the opportunity to be something special. The gifted teachers are there, and some of the students are eager to learn. If the school would stop tolerating drug use, violence, and academic apathy, it could easily overcome its lackluster past.

Advocacy of education and achievement need to be taught to these kids. Graduating high school is not a terminal goal, but you would not know that looking at this school. The students do not receive these values from their parents, so the school must intervene if they want to have a better future, both immediate and long-term.

About me: Crockett High School alumnus (2007), top 3% of graduating class. The University of Texas at Austin alumnus (2011). Currently pursuing a doctorate. I have a very special place in my heart for Crockett, and I am very concerned about their future.

My student has enjoyed the challenging curriculum and extra-curricular activities, but most of all the welcoming attitude of staff and students. She doesn't feel like the cliques rule the school and she has friends in all groups. My view of the school is that no matter what style learner you are, this school will try to find a way for you to succeed. An ACC campus is right across the street and they also have a presence in the auto shop and beautician school on campus. The specialty AP classes are very rigorous. The college prep staff are very proactive and I thank the senior English teachers for spending time during the first six weeks helping the kids draft essays for college applications.

Students at Crockett High school are very welcoming unlike some other schools that I have attended. The AP program is more challenging than those of other schools and the students there are high achievers. This year Crockett had two finalist (one being the winner) of the "Statemans Essay". Although Crockett has had a bad reputation in the past, it is being reconstructed by Mr.Shapiro, the new principal that has now been with us for 2 yrs. People have overlooked the great things Crockett has to offer along with the great students in it and have only seen it superficially as a mediocre school everyone believes it is.
