Geneva Heights has a diverse student population, with a higher percentage of Hispanic (40.47%) and African American (16.42%) students compared to nearby schools like Lee A. McShan Junior Elementary and L.L. Hotchkiss Elementary, which have more Asian and Hispanic students, and White Rock Elementary and Michael M. Boone Elementary, which have more White students. Geneva Heights performs better than the Dallas ISD and Texas state averages in some STAAR test subjects, particularly 3rd grade reading, but struggles in areas like 4th grade mathematics and 5th grade science. The school's performance varies across different student subgroups, with White and female students performing relatively well, but African American, Hispanic, English Language Learner, and low socioeconomic status students performing in the bottom 25% of Texas elementary schools.

Geneva Heights has a mixed performance history, with its statewide ranking ranging from 1,424 to 2,341 out of around 4,600 Texas elementary schools and a SchoolDigger rating that has fluctuated between 2 and 3 stars. The school faces challenges related to its high percentage of students (46.04%) receiving free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a significant population of students from low-income families. While Geneva Heights has a relatively low student-teacher ratio and per-student spending that is higher than the state average, it lags behind some of the higher-performing nearby schools in the Richardson ISD and Highland Park ISD, such as White Rock Elementary and Michael M. Boone Elementary.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I took a chance and pulled my son out of private school and sent him here. This school offers dual-language and is IB certified. My son completes his homework in Spanish while completing IB curriculum. Getting in touch with the principal and/or teacher is incredibly simple. I can go to his school and participate in anything anytime and they love seeing parents there. I can't believe I was spending more than 20k a year on private! Close Quote

Open Quote This school has tremendous potential. Lee Elementary was rated exemplary in 2011 (the last year Texas schools were ranked). We have a new, bright, and energetic principle who is encouraging the parents and community to get involved, is starting a two way bilingual program for Kindergarten in the 2013-14 school year, and is driven by the belief that every child deserves a quality education that will prepare them for college and beyond. This is a relatively small, friendly school where an interested and involved parent can really make an impact on both their own child's experience and the community as a whole. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
