Summary:

Faubion Middle is a public middle school located in McKinney, Texas, serving grades 6-8 with a student population of 1,251. It is part of the McKinney Independent School District, which is ranked 237 out of 968 districts in Texas and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Faubion Middle has a relatively diverse student population, with a racial makeup of 38.37% White, 14.87% African American, 36.37% Hispanic, 4.48% Asian, and 5.28% two or more races. The school's academic performance on STAAR tests is generally above the state average, particularly in reading and mathematics, with 100% of students proficient or better in STAAR Algebra I. However, Faubion Middle's performance varies across different student subgroups, with White and multi-racial students performing the strongest, while African American, Hispanic, and economically disadvantaged students tend to perform below the state average.

Compared to nearby schools, Faubion Middle's academic performance is stronger than Leonard Evans Junior Middle and Scott Morgan Johnson Middle, but lags behind the higher-performing schools in the area, such as Dowell Middle, Dr. Jack Cockrill Middle, and the schools in the Frisco Independent School District and Melissa Independent School District. The performance gap may be partially attributed to the higher percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds at Faubion Middle, which could contribute to the racial achievement disparities observed at the school.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I thought this school was good to my daughter but let me warn you about one program that isn't there. Tha3ts the orchestra. My daughter just went to high school an she doesn't want to play anymore because of their teacher. Shes beyond harsh, she over pushes her kids, my daughter expressed other people dropping orchestra even before her. My daughter is not just good shes great. Shes all honor student who had a passion for playing and the ochestra teacher destoyed it. Not to mention when she told my daughter she made honors ochestra after she tried out, had her sign a contract, and then next year told she didn't make it. My daughter's anxiety because of her whole experience with this teacher for two years caused her so much doubt, anxiety, and burn out. I don't know if I'll even be able to get her to play again. Her outside intructors who worked with her for years outside of school felt so bad and were infuriated this happened to her. Watch your kids mental health with this ochestra teacher. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
